One of the provinces having the hardest times on the night of July 15 was Şırnak. A group of coup plotters who went out of 23rd Gendarmerie Border Division Command and Çakırsöğüt Gendarmerie Commando Brigade Command that night firstly tried to go to Şırnak and then to Ankara so as to support the other coup plotters. Tension occurred between special police forces and the convoy that was stopped at the entrance of Cizre district of Şırnak.
It was put in indictment that Rebel Commander of Çakırsöğüt Gendarmerie Commando Brigade Command Brigadier Ali Osman Gürcan threatened the police forces that did not let the convoy pass “Open the road or we will fly the aircrafts and bomb here in five minutes”. With the support of people of Cizre, coup plotters were forced to turn back to their command from Cizre border. In the meantime, military cargo planes that tried to grounded in Şerafettin Elçi Airport in order to take the coup plotters were obstructed with the trucks placed on apron. The tension continued until mass arrest in the early hours of the morning. 384 soldiers including Commander of 23rd Gendarmerie Border Division Command Abdullah Baysar, Commander of Çakırsöğüt Gendarmerie Commando Brigade Command Brigadier Ali Osman Gürcan and Commander of Akçay 6th Motorized Infantry Brigade Command Brigadier Mesut Savaş were arrested. In the so-called martial law list, Brigadier Ali Osman Gürcan was appointed to General Directorate of Police and Gendarmerie Personnel Department and Commander of 23rd Gendarmerie Border Division Command Abdullah Baysar to Şırnak Martial Law Command.
