The government and nation gathered against the coup on the night of July 15 in Bingöl. People confronted treacherous putschists. Following President Erdoğan’s call to “resist against the coup”, residents of Bingöl gathered at the city centre, carrying Turkish flags and chanting slogans in support of democracy. Armoured vehicles of the police blocked the entry of Bingöl 49th Commando Brigade Command and soldiers were not allowed to go out. It was revealed that Commander of Bingöl 49th Commando Brigade Command Yunus Kotaman ordered soldiers to run the tanks after the coup attempt. While it was learnt some patriot soldiers objected to the order of the putschist brigadier general, it was figured out that Bingöl was saved from a great threat following the security measures taken. 69 military officers including Brigadier General Yunus Kotaman of Bingöl 49th Commando Brigade Command were arrested.
