On the night of July 15, people of Kastamonu took action upon the call of President Erdogan and adopted an attitude in favour of democracy. Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım who was in İstanbul on the night of coup attempt took the road to Ankara. Yıldırım changed the route due to security and spent the night in the house of a district governorship in Kastamonu. After the coup attempt, the then Commander of Kastamonu Gendarmerie Region Command Brigadier General Faruk Bal was discharged from Turkish Armed Forces, arrested and put in prison. It was stated in the indictment that rebel Brigadier General had ordered to distribute 190 handheld radios to coup plotters to use as alternative combat devices.
