On the night of July 15, citizens took to the streets in Kahramanmaraş upon the call of the President Erdoğan. They marched in support of democracy. Commander of Kahramanmaraş Garrison at the time, Staff Colonel Uzay Şahin who was in cooperation with coup plotters in İstanbul that night called the acting major and gave the order “take the tanks out of the garrison and maintain the control of strategic areas”. The patriot major said that he could not execute illegal orders. He collected drive shafts of tanks and prevented a calamity in the city.
