One of the most important centres for the plans of coup plotters who wanted to wreak carnage in the country on July 15 was Hatay. Treacherous coup plotters even fictionalized a civil war scenario in the event that the coup attempt did not succeed in the city near the Syrian border.
According to the events put on judicial records, Brigadier General Hasan Polat, Commander of 39th Mechanized Infantry Brigade, held a meeting around 01.00 in Hatay Serinyol Gendarmerie Training Regimental Command on the night of July 15. Two civilians collaborating with coup plotters were also attended the meeting.
It had been planned to distribute weapons to 300 persons and attack to a village with different sects. The aim was to raise an armed fight between Alevi and Sunnis.
