On the night of July 15, intense security measures were taken in front of the governorship, police department and Combatant Air Force and Air Missile Defence Command in Eskişehir.
On those hours, Commander of Combatant Air Force and Air Missile Defence Command Lieutenant General Mehmet Şenver was attending the wedding of his daughter in Moda, İstanbul. Lieutenant General Mehmet Şenver and several commanders were abducted by treacherous coup plotters.
In the next hours, action was taken for an operation against Akıncı Air Base which was the centre of coup plotters. Prime Minister Yıldırım wanted Deputy Commander of Combatant Air Force Lieutenant General Ziya Cemal Kadıoğlu who was in command at that moment to shoot down the aircraft and helicopters of coup plotters in the air.
Lieutenant General Ziya Cemal Kadıoğlu requested the orders as written first but then carried out the orders after had sound recording of the orders. According to the statement of the commander, fighter aircrafts that took off around 04:30-04:35 joined the operations against treacherous coup plotters.
Chief of Staff of Combatant Air Force and Air Missile Defence Command Major General Suat Murat Semiz and Commander of 1st Combined Air Operations Centre and JFAC Lieutenant General Recep Ünval whose cooperation with treacherous coup plotters on the night of July 15 were detected were arrested.
