The address of one of the important developments related to the failure of coup attempt on 15th July was Van. On that day, Van Gendarmerie Corps Commander Lieutenant General İsmail Metin Temel was supervising border units in Hakkari. Putschists organized an assassination squad of eight people to neutralize Lieutenant General İsmail Metin Temel.
The helicopter carrying Lieutenant General İsmail Metin Temel was going to Siirt and turned to Van at the last moment. In Siirt, the assassination team, waiting to attempt against life of the Lieutenant General Metin, went to Şırnak and then to Van as soon as possible. As the coup attempt became obvious after the President Erdoğan's call, the assassination team of 8 people was caught in Van. It took place in the indictment that Van Gendarmerie Public Security Corps Commander Lieutenant General İsmail Metin Temel was to be killed 'as if he helps PKK terrorists'.
